Tsetsens Mining & Energy LLC holds the mineral exploitation license for the Buuruljuut lignite deposit and, since 2011, has been successfully implementing the integrated “Buuruljuut 2×150 MW Thermal Power Plant and Coal Mine Project” in staged development.

    Tsetsens Mining & Energy LLC established.

    Preliminary Feasibility Study (Pre‑FS) for the power plant completed.

  2. 2012

    Electricity generation license obtained.

  3. 2013

    Feasibility Study for the Buuruljuut coal mine completed.

  4. 2014

    Technical conditions for grid interconnection developed.

    Detailed Feasibility Study (DFS) performed by RWE (Germany).

  5. 2016

    Investment Agreement and Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed.

  6. 2017

    State Commission accepted the coal mine for permanent operation; commercial mining began.

  1. 2019

    Sinosteel selected as EPC General Contractor; Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) and basic engineering completed.

  2. 2020

    Mine operations stabilized; coal supply to the national power system commenced.

    Engineering & geotechnical investigations for the power plant conducted.

  3. 2022

    Turnkey EPC contract updated; detailed design started.

    Power plant construction commenced.

  4. 2023

    Main steel structure erection for Unit 2 started.

    150‑m stack erected. Structural enclosure completed. 220 kV overhead transmission line constructed. Hydrostatic testing completed on boiler & water treatment systems.

  5. 2024-10

    72‑hour reliability run; Unit 1 scheduled for commissioning.

  6. 2025-10

    72‑hour reliability run; Unit 2 scheduled for commissioning.
